Ted is a sole legal practitioner operating at Mudgeeraba, since 1991 on the Gold Coast.   He was admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of New Zealand in 1970 and of Western Australia in 1971.  Ted practised in Western Australia and at Darwin and Alice Springs from 1971 to 1987. He was admitted in Queensland in 1988. Ted is a Court Appointed Costs Assessor and has been assessing costs since 1998.

Ted has a long history with the Gold Coast District Law Association. He was
Treasurer in 1989 to 1990 and President from 2004 to 2008. Ted was elected to the council of the Queensland Law Society in 2007 and served until 2009.

He was recently recognised by the Chief Justice at our 2016 Annual General Meeting for his service in 2004. While President, he launched a complaint against the Gold Coast Bulletin. Ted then travelled to Sydney and appeared before the Press Council of Australia and was successful in establishing the complaint.

As President, Ted Skuse was instrumental in organising the Gold Coast Law Symposium which has continued annually. He continues on the committee of the GCDLA and was recently re-elected at the 2016 Annual General Meeting.

Ted says that upon his arrival in 1987 from the Northern Territory, the local profession was strongly supportive of him and he has been, he says, “Giving back ever since.”

Ted has a variety of interests and pursuits. He is a published author and poet. His first two novels, “Killing Season” and “Transformed” have been highly acclaimed. Ted is currently busy working on his third novel in the trilogy. Following his obtaining a Diploma in Theology in 2009, he has taught as a volunteer at local primary schools. Following a visit to the state of Kentucky, USA, he was honoured by the Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky and was commissioned a Kentucky Colonel on 22 June 2011.
